Air India Elevates Mumbai-London Heathrow Services with Brand-New B787-9 Featuring New Premium Cabins

Air India has introduced its newest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the Mumbai–London Heathrow route, further advancing its fleet modernisation programme and enhancing the travel experience on one of its flagship international services. Effective immediately, flights AI131 and AI130 between Mumbai and London Heathrow will be operated by the airline’s latest-generation Boeing 787-9 aircraft, featuring all-new cabin interiors designed exclusively for Air India and installed directly on Boeing’s production line.

The deployment also marks the introduction of Premium Economy on the route, giving passengers the choice of travelling in Business Class, Premium Economy or Economy. Configured in a three-class layout, the aircraft features 30 Business Class suites, 28 Premium Economy seats and 238 Economy seats, combining contemporary design with advanced technology and Indian-inspired aesthetics.

Business Class offers fully flat beds, direct aisle access, wireless charging, generous storage space and 17-inch 4K QLED HDR entertainment screens. Premium Economy features wider seats in a 2-3-2 configuration, a 38-inch seat pitch, enhanced recline, adjustable headrests, leg and calf rests, along with 13.3-inch 4K QLED HDR touchscreens. Economy passengers benefit from ergonomically designed seats, improved comfort and 11.6-inch 4K QLED HDR entertainment screens.

Across all cabins, passengers can enjoy the new Thales AVANT Up inflight entertainment system with more than 3,000 hours of content, Bluetooth audio connectivity, USB-A and USB-C charging ports, AC power outlets and an intuitive interface. The aircraft also features mood lighting inspired by Indian wellness traditions, refreshed menus showcasing Indian and international cuisine, premium tableware, plush bedding and redesigned amenity kits.

Air India’s second daily Mumbai–London Heathrow service will continue to be operated by its upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft featuring First Class.

The UK remains one of Air India’s key international markets. The airline currently operates 57 weekly non-stop flights between India and the UK, connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Amritsar with London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Birmingham, while also offering convenient onward connections through its Indian hubs to destinations across the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia and Australia.
