Réunion Island Opens a New Chapter for Indian Travellers with IndiGo’s Direct Chennai Connectivity

From 29 April 2026, IndiGo will launch direct flights between Chennai and Réunion Island, operating three times weekly on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This landmark connectivity strengthens access between India and Réunion, making it an exciting, convenient choice for Indian travellers seeking premium, offbeat, experience-led holidays.

The new route marks an important milestone in Réunion’s long-term strategy to build a sustained presence in the Indian market and cater to the evolving travel aspirations of Indian consumers who are increasingly looking beyond traditional destinations. The initiative is being driven by the Reunion Island Tourism Board, which is implementing a structured roadmap to enhance visibility and develop strong partnerships with Indian travel trade stakeholders in collaboration with Atout France India.

A French overseas territory in the Indian Ocean, Réunion offers a distinctive blend of adventure, nature, culture, and gastronomy. The island’s tourism offering spans outdoor pursuits such as hiking, canyoning, mountain biking, and paragliding, alongside helicopter tours and panoramic scenic flights that reveal dramatic volcanic landscapes. Visitors can also enjoy a wide range of water-based experiences, including diving, snorkelling, and paddleboarding, complemented by a rich cultural and culinary scene shaped by diverse global influences and the island’s celebrated art de vivre.

Signature attractions such as Piton de la Fournaise and the UNESCO-listed Pitons, Cirques and Remparts of Réunion Island are being integrated into curated itineraries tailored to the expectations of high-value Indian travellers. The destination’s strategy for India is anchored in three key priorities: enhanced air accessibility through IndiGo’s new service, stronger trade partnerships with travel professionals and DMCs in collaboration with Atout France India, and the development of customised, curated sojourns designed specifically for Indian travellers.

With direct connectivity now in place, Réunion Island is poised to emerge as a premium Indian Ocean destination, offering a seamless blend of adventure, luxury, culture, and French flair within easy reach of India.
