Skål International India marked a historic milestone at the Skål International World Congress 2025, held in Cusco, Peru, from September 25–30. With leadership, legacy, and sustainability at its core, India showcased its growing influence on the global stage, reinforcing its commitment to advancing responsible tourism. In a historic achievement, NSN Mohan, Region 10 (India) Director and Deputy Vice President, Skål International, was elected Vice President 2026 & President Elect 2027, becoming the first Indian to hold the organisation’s highest office.
“This honour is not just mine—it belongs to every Skålleague in India who believes in friendship, leadership, and service. Together, we will build bridges across nations and demonstrate that tourism, rooted in sustainability and unity, can transform the world,” said NSN Mohan.
Sanjeev Mehra, President, Skål International India, congratulated Mohan, stating, “His leadership reflects our collective aspiration — to position India as a beacon of Skål’s core ethos and strengthen the global movement.”
In a moving tribute, the late Syed Hafizur Rahman of Skål International Kolkata was posthumously recognised as Membre d’Honneur 2025, one of the organisation’s highest honours. “His legacy will continue to inspire generations of Skålleagues and Indian tourism,” said Sanjeev Mehra. Amin Asghar, President, Skål International Kolkata, added, “We carry forward the light of a legend. His vision and passion for Skål will forever guide our path.”
Skål India’s commitment to sustainability was further celebrated at the Skål International Sustainable Tourism Awards 2025. The Asian Footprints (Whitehat Media), founded by senior journalist June Mukherjee, won in the inaugural Communications category for its campaign “Slow is the New Speed,” conducted in collaboration with UNWTO, Biosphere, Sustainable Travel International, and the Responsible Tourism Institute. ITC Maurya New Delhi was also recognised for excellence in Accommodation, Food & Hospitality Services.
“This award is a testament to the power of storytelling in shaping sustainable futures. ‘Slow is the New Speed’ is a movement redefining the way we travel with care, justice, and responsibility,” said Priyam Biswas, Publisher & Creative Director, The Asian Footprints.
Sanjeev Mehra added, “This recognition reinforces Skål India’s pioneering spirit in sustainable communication and June’s ability to inspire global change.” Amin Asghar noted, “June Mukherjee’s advocacy and creativity exemplify how sustainability and innovation can go hand in hand.”
These achievements underscore Skål International India’s dedication to promoting friendship, leadership, and sustainability while advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals in tourism. The organisation continues to foster innovative partnerships and amplify India’s voice in the global tourism fraternity.
“Our mission is clear—serve the industry, do business among friends, and keep sustainability at the heart of everything we do. These triumphs are just the beginning of a stronger, more influential Skål India on the world stage,” concluded Sanjeev Mehra.
