The Leela Unveils The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary, Redefining Nature-Led Luxury in India

The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts has unveiled The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary, the new identity for its recently acquired luxury retreat in Coorg. The reimagined destination reflects the property’s spectacular setting amidst 76 acres of ancient forests, coffee plantations and the rich biodiversity of the Western Ghats, while reinforcing The Leela’s vision of creating exceptional luxury experiences deeply rooted in their surroundings.

As The Leela celebrates four decades of True Indian Luxury, The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary joins its distinguished portfolio as one of the brand’s most immersive nature-led destinations. Designed to foster a deeper connection with nature, the retreat offers guests an opportunity to slow down, embrace authentic Indian hospitality and experience transformative wellbeing in one of India’s most captivating landscapes.

Located within one of Coorg’s oldest coffee estates, the IGBC Platinum-certified retreat has been thoughtfully designed in harmony with its natural environment. Inspired by Kodava heritage, estate living and the rhythms of the forest, the contemporary architecture blends seamlessly with local craftsmanship and the surrounding landscape, creating an atmosphere where mist-covered mornings, birdsong and lush forest canopies become an integral part of every stay.

Commenting on the unveiling, Anuraag Bhatnagar, Chief Executive Officer, The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, said, “The unveiling of The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary represents an important milestone in our journey of creating destinations that are deeply rooted in their surroundings. As we continue to expand our portfolio across India’s most remarkable destinations, this retreat reflects our belief that the most memorable luxury experiences are those that celebrate the unique character of a destination rather than simply existing within it.”

The retreat features 71 spacious villas, including duplex, family and private pool villas, culminating in the four-bedroom Sunbeam Presidential Villa overlooking the surrounding forest. Guests can immerse themselves in curated experiences such as guided forest walks, plantation trails, birdwatching, waterfall excursions, cycling and stargazing, showcasing Coorg’s remarkable biodiversity and tranquil pace of life.

Dining experiences celebrate regional flavours through Luma’s lakefront all-day dining, Zen’s refined Pan-Asian cuisine, The Cellar and 92 Degrees, while the signature “Estate to Brew” experience offers guided plantation walks, curated coffee tastings and storytelling inspired by Coorg’s centuries-old coffee heritage. The retreat also features a tranquil seven-acre lake, a private helipad and the 27,000-square-foot Aujasya by The Leela wellness centre, where personalised therapies, yoga, mindfulness and nature-inspired rituals promote holistic rejuvenation.

With 24 hotels currently operating and in the pipeline across key gateway cities and marquee leisure destinations, The Leela continues to redefine True Indian Luxury through experiences that celebrate India’s diverse landscapes, cultures and traditions, creating journeys that remain memorable long after guests return home.
