Air India is set to significantly enhance its Delhi–Melbourne service with the deployment of its upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft from July 1, replacing the existing Boeing 787-8. The introduction of the refurbished wide-body aircraft marks a major upgrade in premium seat capacity, onboard comfort, and passenger experience, while also bringing First Class to the route for the first time.
The three-class Boeing 777-300ER is configured with eight First Class suites, 40 fully flat Business Class seats, and 280 Economy Class seats, offering a substantial increase in premium capacity over the Boeing 787-8, which features 28 Business Class and 241 Economy Class seats. The move is part of Air India’s ongoing transformation programme aimed at modernising its fleet and delivering a globally benchmarked travel experience across its international network.
Passengers flying to Melbourne will benefit from a host of upgraded onboard features. First Class travellers can enjoy spacious private suites with leather-upholstered seats that convert into fully flat beds, complemented by personalised service, premium dining, enhanced privacy, and exclusive ground privileges. Business Class passengers will experience greater comfort with fully flat beds designed for long-haul travel, along with upgraded service offerings.
The airline is also introducing Wi-Fi connectivity on the Delhi–Melbourne route for the first time, enabling guests to remain connected throughout their journey. Air India has further enhanced its inflight experience with refreshed food and beverage offerings, featuring thoughtfully curated menus that combine Indian favourites with global cuisine, paired with a premium selection of wines and spirits. An expanded entertainment library with a wider choice of movies, television shows, music, and other content caters to the diverse preferences of international travellers.
The aircraft upgrade complements Air India’s broader investments in improving the end-to-end customer journey. Eligible premium customers departing from Delhi will have access to the airline’s flagship Maharaja Lounge at Delhi Airport, offering an elevated pre-flight experience with upgraded dining, comfortable seating, and personalised service.
Australia remains a key international market for Air India, supported by growing business and leisure travel demand. The airline currently operates four non-stop flights each week between Delhi and Melbourne and is scheduled to increase the service to daily flights from 1 September 2026.
