ATOAI to Host Seminar on ‘Indian Adventure Tourism: Risk Management’ in New Delhi on May 18

The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) will host a high-level seminar titled “Indian Adventure Tourism: Risk Management” on May 18 at The Park Hotel, New Delhi. The seminar will bring together policymakers, state representatives, industry leaders, and international experts to chart a safer and more resilient future for adventure tourism in India. Adventure tourism has emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments of the global travel industry, with the sector valued at approximately USD 683 billion in 2024. With its vast geographical diversity and natural assets, India is uniquely positioned to harness this momentum and establish itself as a leading global adventure tourism destination.

Safety remains the cornerstone of credibility, investor confidence, and India’s positioning on the global adventure tourism map. ATOAI’s collective vision is to place India among the top ten global adventure tourism destinations by 2034. Achieving this goal will require coordinated and strategic efforts, robust risk mitigation, and the highest standards of safety across the industry. While several adventure tourism standards have already been developed and others are underway, the industry faces a pressing need for widespread standardisation through effective adoption and implementation. This must be supported by a more uniform regulatory and monitoring framework across states, along with a comprehensive national risk management structure.

Ajeet Bajaj, President, ATOAI, said, “India’s immense adventure tourism potential must be anchored in robust risk management and uncompromising safety standards. This seminar is a significant step towards building a unified, future-ready framework that inspires confidence among all stakeholders.”

The seminar will convene stakeholders to deliberate on global and Indian best practices in risk mitigation, comprehensive safety frameworks across land-, water-, and air-based activities, insurance and legal liability mechanisms, stronger regulatory frameworks, and the role of media in shaping perception, enhancing consumer awareness, and ensuring accountability. The event will culminate in the formulation of a National Roadmap for Adventure Tourism Risk Management, aligned with global benchmarks and tailored to India’s diverse landscape.
