Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of Noida International Airport, marking a major milestone for India’s aviation and logistics sector. The ceremony also saw the launch of the airport’s cargo terminal and the foundation stone laid for a 40-acre state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility. Addressing the gathering, he described the project as a key step in the Viksit Bharat – Viksit Uttar Pradesh vision, highlighting its role as a logistics gateway for North India that will boost investment, trade, and exports.
The new airport is expected to drive economic growth across western Uttar Pradesh, including Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Bulandshahr. It is set to create new opportunities for farmers, MSMEs, and young professionals by enabling faster access to global markets. He also expressed gratitude to local farmers whose land contributions made the project possible, noting that the airport will help regional agricultural products reach international supply chains more efficiently.
Designed as a hub of multi-modal connectivity, the airport seamlessly integrates road, rail, and air transport. The cargo hub will begin operations with an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh metric tonnes, with plans to expand to 18 lakh metric tonnes, strengthening global market access for products from Uttar Pradesh. Highlighting the importance of the upcoming MRO facility, he noted that nearly 85% of aircraft in India previously depended on overseas maintenance services. The new facility will enhance self-reliance in aviation and generate thousands of jobs.
Uttar Pradesh now ranks among the states with the highest number of airports in the country, reflecting rapid expansion in aviation infrastructure. The airport will connect North India to global destinations and is being developed to handle one aircraft take-off every two minutes.
The inauguration marks a significant step in strengthening India’s aviation ecosystem, enhancing connectivity, and accelerating regional development.
