A high-level delegation from the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) called on the Governor of Manipur, H.E. Ajay Kumar Bhalla, at Raj Bhavan yesterday to discuss key issues impacting tourism development in the state and to explore collaborative pathways for enhancing Manipur’s global visibility.
The delegation was led by Mr Ravi Gosain, President of IATO, along with Mr Rajiv Mehra, Immediate Past President; Mr Radhakrishna Sharma, IATO State In-charge for Manipur; and Mr E.B. Blah, IATO State In-charge for Meghalaya.
During the meeting, the IATO representatives highlighted critical challenges faced by tour operators and stakeholders in Manipur. The delegation drew attention to the limitations posed by the Protected Area Permit (PAP) system and its procedural complexities, which continue to deter international travellers. They also underscored the need for enhanced air connectivity and infrastructure upgrades to improve access and overall visitor experience.
The team further emphasised the importance of comprehensive tourism promotion strategies—particularly in international markets—to position Manipur as a competitive destination with unique cultural, natural, and adventure offerings. IATO assured the Governor of its full support in strengthening Manipur’s tourism landscape through advocacy, participation in global travel marts, and industry partnerships.
The Governor appreciated the delegation’s constructive suggestions and expressed his commitment to facilitating initiatives that would boost tourism, promote regional stability, and contribute to socio-economic development across Manipur.
Earlier, on November 26, 2025, Mr Ravi Gosain and Mr Rajiv Mehra attended and addressed the 3rd Manipur Tourism Congress, organised by Manipur Tourism. Speaking during the panel discussion on “Partnership for Progress,” Mr Gosain stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between government authorities, tourism associations, and private sector partners in driving sustainable tourism growth. He reiterated IATO’s commitment to supporting emerging destinations like Manipur through its extensive national and international network, enabling greater outreach among global tour operators and travellers.
