Kerala Brings Camper Vans Under Caravan Tourism; Extends Full Incentive Benefits

In a major boost to Kerala’s Caravan Tourism initiative, the state government has officially brought camper vans within the scope of its flagship project, Keravan Kerala, making them eligible for the full range of subsidies, financial assistance, and institutional incentives available under the scheme. The decision follows the recommendation of the state tourism department, which observed that the inclusion of camper vans would accelerate the growth trajectory of the tourism sector and generate increased economic activity across local communities.

“This decision will open up a lot of opportunities for camper van operators and local entrepreneurs connected to the tourism sector across the state,” said P. A. Mohamed Riyas, Tourism Minister. He noted that camper vans offer an affordable, comfortable, and flexible travel mode for small groups and families, further strengthening Kerala’s appeal among domestic and international travellers seeking immersive travel experiences.

The caravan tourism project is positioned as a key pillar in Kerala’s evolving tourism ecosystem, complementing the state’s diverse portfolio of attractions and experiential offerings. Keravan Kerala was launched with a comprehensive suite of incentives and support measures for caravan operators and park facilitators, aimed at fostering a robust and sustainable caravan tourism network.

The inclusion of camper vans is expected to significantly expand the segment’s reach, stimulate entrepreneurship, and provide travellers with new ways to explore Kerala’s landscapes while enjoying the freedom and comfort of mobile living.
