Taiwan Swings into India’s Golf Tourism Market with Strategic Focus and Premium Experiences

Taiwan and India share deep-rooted historical and cultural connections, and building upon this shared legacy, the Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) has taken bold strides to re-establish Taiwan as a compelling destination for Indian travellers. Since its re-entry into the Indian market in January 2024, TTA has made significant investments in targeted promotional efforts to bring Taiwan closer to Indian tourists. As part of its renewed market development strategy, TTA has launched a series of targeted campaigns to position Taiwan not only as a leisure destination but also as a top choice for corporate and incentive travel. Now, with an eye on expanding into high-value niche segments, Taiwan is making a strong pitch for golf tourism. This sector resonates well with affluent Indian travellers and corporate groups looking for immersive and luxurious experiences.

Golf in Taiwan is more than a sport—it’s part of a rich tradition that spans over a century. The country is home to some of Asia’s finest golf courses, offering year-round playability due to Taiwan’s pleasant climate and diverse landscape. Courses such as the Ta Shee Golf & Country Club, the historic Taiwan Golf & Country Club, and the scenic Miramar Golf & Country Club are just a few examples of the world-class golfing infrastructure Taiwan proudly offers. These premium golf courses are often set amidst breathtaking natural surroundings, seamlessly blending sport with scenery. With continuous investments in upgrading and expanding its golfing facilities, Taiwan is emerging as a competitive and attractive destination for golf lovers from around the world.

Looking ahead, TTA is actively working to build strategic partnerships with India’s golf tourism trade, online travel agents (OTAs), and key stakeholders. The goal is to create customised golf packages that cater specifically to the needs of high-net-worth individuals (HNIs) and corporate travellers. These packages will go beyond just the game—they will integrate five-star resort stays, rejuvenating hot springs and wellness experiences, rich culinary offerings, and exclusive shopping adventures.

By offering such well-rounded itineraries, Taiwan aims to position itself as an all-encompassing golf getaway for Indian travellers seeking a premium, off-the-beaten-path destination. These niche efforts come at a time when Taiwan’s tourism from India is witnessing impressive growth. The destination recorded a strong 20%+ rise in Indian visitor arrivals, crossing the 38,000 mark in 2024—a clear indication of rising interest and growing awareness.

TTA’s efforts are aligned with its new global promotional campaign, “TAIWAN—Waves of Wonder,” which celebrates the island’s evolving tourism narrative—from its rich culture and vibrant cities to unique offerings like golf, wellness, and outdoor adventure.

With golf tourism as a key growth pillar, Taiwan is well-positioned to elevate its brand presence in India and appeal to the increasingly discerning Indian traveller in 2025 and beyond.
